The upcoming Chicago Cubs 2012 baseball season is just around the corner, and the fans are gearing up for the home opener scheduled on April 5th against the Washington Nationals. Fans let’s get ready for the 7th Inning Stretch and sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame, which became famous from former well-known broadcasting legend, Harry Carry. This year’s newly acquired players for the Chicago Cubs 2012 team are Kerry Wood, Paul Maholm, Chris Volstad, Anthony Rizzo and Zach Cates.
Anthony Rizzo, first baseman and Zach Cates, pitcher who was formally with the San Diego Padres and were traded with Anthony Cashner, pitcher and Kyung-Min Na, outfielder formally with the Chicago Cubs. Paul Maholm, pitcher was formally with the Pittsburgh Pirates and acquired by the Chicago Cubs. Kerry Wood, pitcher was formally with the Cleveland Indians and was re-signed by the Chicago Cubs this year. Tickets are now being sold for the Chicago Cubs 2012 spring schedule. The upcoming season includes 35 games, which of those 16 games are played at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, AZ and two of the games will be played in Las Vegas against Texas. Even though the Cubs have not won a World Series since 1909, they do have one of the largest fan bases across the MLB and across other professional sport’s teams.
Believe it or not, the Chicago Cubs is in the top ten as one of the most grossing teams compared to other professional sports teams. Winning a World Series is something that is not expected of the Cubs, but they continue to be popular for what they have done in sport’s history over the years.
